While the Tamil film industry has been roping in actresses from the Malabar Coast, looks like the girls from Mumbai are keen on Mollywood films. Recently, there were reports that Shriya Saran and Vidya Balan are keen on working in a Malayalam film.

And now, Sameera Reddy has been signed up to play opposite Mohanlal in Casanova. The film, which has been shelved for long, will begin early next year in Dubai, reveals sources close to the unit. Also, there are two more heroines along with Sameera – Laksmi Rai and Roma. Roshan Andrews will be wielding the megaphone for Casanova.

Sameer (Dhyaan in Kannada) who will soon be seen in Kutty with Dhanush and Shriya, is in Dubai for the Film Festival, where his Shyam Benegal movie Well Done Abba is being screened. He had a scary experience when shooting for his Hindi film 8, a horror flick directed by Wilson Louis.

The schedule was in Jodhpur where the team was shooting in the 400-year-old Khejarla Fort. Like many forts and palaces in Rajasthan, this too has been converted into a heritage hotel. The shooting was going as planned, but when the team had to travel to locales away from the city for the shooting, local tales of spirits and ghosts spooked them out. Imagine shooting for a horror film at places that have ghostly pasts!

Shriya, who is currently ruling the roost in South India, stepped into glamour field with Usha Kiron Movies 'Ishtam'. Her following film 'Santosham' with Nagarjuna had changed her life completely. And from then onwards her film journey started. After working with almost all big stars in Tollywood, this pretty damsel shifted her gear to Kollywood (Tamil film industry) pairing with Jayam Ravi in 'Mazhai' (Varsham in Telugu). That film had fetched her bumper offer from Shankar. Yes! She got a golden opportunity to work with Tamil super star Rajinikanth in 'Sivaji'. Her fans and well-wishers were not all that happy because due to that project she would loose many of other projects. But post-release of 'Sivaji' it has been proved that her decision was right. The actress joined the list of top actress in Kollywood too, thereafter pairing with all top heroes inTamil also and reached a stage of charging Rs 70 lakhs as her remuneration or sometimes even more.

Although Shriya tried her luck in Bollywood, she could not succeed there due to wrong choices of projects. Now, the beautiful young lady wants to test her waters in Malluwood (Malayalamfilm industry). But folks, the whole world know that the highest remuneration for a heroine in Malluwood is Rs 20 lakhs.

In that situation, why all of a sudden Shriya, who has been ruling the roost in Tamil film industry, suddenly decided to act in a Malayalam film? Is it due to her recent films failing at box-office? (or) Is she going to get a better remuneration than in Kollywood? All these questions must have arisen in many minds.

Shriya's only answer for the above questions is that she signed this Malayalam film because of interesting storyline and secondly she is getting good opportunity to work with two big stars like Mammotty and Prithviraj.

Whatever may be the reason let's hope for Shriya's bright future. After all, ultimately it is the stars who always keep the public happy with loads of entertainment.

Srikanth for a film, Shriya Saran has said no such plans are in the pipeline.

"I have not signed any new films in Tamil. Three of my films which are set to release soon are 'Jaggubhai', 'Kutty' and 'Chikku Bhukku', "says the actress, clearing the air.

Interestingly, this New Year will see Shriya Saran shining in Mollywood. She has signed a film with Mammootty and Prithviraj. Titled 'Pokkiri Raja', the movie directed by Vysakh is an action-packed masala entertainer.

On accepting a Malayalam offer, she says, "My role in the film is so important. In other words, the script revolves around me. Moreover Mammootty is acting in it. So I had no hesitation in accepting the offer."


Shriya Saran moves to Mollywood
Shriya Saran has turned a strategist. In a move that is being looked upon as a carefully planned one, the actress has chosen to do a big Malayalam film.

She will play the lead along with megastar Mammootty and Prithviraj in Pokkiri Raja, an action-packed masala entertainer directed by Vysakh. Mammootty and Prithviraj play brothers pitted against each other in the film.

Confirming the news, Shriya said, “Yes, I'm doing the film in Malayalam with Mammootty and Prithviraj. My role is the pivot around which the film revolves and it is meaty. I can't wish for a better launch in Malayalam.” The actress has given dates from January 10 to February 15 for the film which will be shot in Kochi and Pollachi. Pokkiri Raja, which has already triggered huge expectations, is expected to release on Vishu, which falls on April 14, 2010. The grapevine has it that she is being paid a whopping amount to do the Malayalam film, the highest ever paid to an actress in Kerala.

Meanwhile, Shriya has rubbished reports that she is doing a Tamil film with Srikanth. Says Shriya, “I haven't signed any new films in Tamil. At the moment, I have Jaggubhai and Kutty, which are ready for release in January. I have to complete Chikku Bukku with Arya.”
Meanwhile, the buzz is that she is in talks with a popular production house
to do a film with Jeeva, which is to be directed by debutant Gokul.

Shriya Saran has a mixed bag. Her recent English film 'Cooking with Stella' received good reviews and was screened at the Toronto Film Festival. She was last seen in Susi Ganesan's Kanthaswamy with Vikram where her skin show was more talked about than the film. Currently she is doing Mithran Jawahar's Kutty with Dhanush and K S Ravikumar's Jaggubhai will be ready for release soon.

Meanwhile the industry is abuzz with the latest news that she will very soon be diversifying and spreading her wings into Mollywood too. She is said to have signed on the dotted line for a Malayalam film titled Pokkiri Raja opposite mega star Mammootty to be directed by newcomer Vysakh.
